Sentinel-2 has revolutionised land cover mapping in East Africa. Its 10-metre spatial resolution and frequent revisit cycle allow analysts to produce accurate classification maps at scales previously impossible with Landsat alone.
At SoMAP, we use Sentinel-2 combined with Google Earth Engine and QGIS to map rangelands, croplands, and urban expansion across Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
